Nepal Is Too Beautiful to Fly Over
The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, six hours through the Trishuli river valley, past terraced hills and roadside dal-bhat stops, is part of the trip, not just transit. Same goes for the descent into Chitwan's plains, the rugged climb toward Muktinath, the sunrise at Bandipur, the spiritual quiet of Lumbini.
GMS Long Distance Tours put you in a comfortable, well maintained vehicle with a driver who has done these routes hundreds of times. You decide where to stop. We handle the rest.
Where We Drive
We don't have a fixed list of ‘tour packages’ because every customer's trip is different. Some people want a fast Pokhara turnaround. Others want to spend a week touring Bandipur, Pokhara, and the Annapurna foothills. Some are doing a Lumbini pilgrimage with stops at Manakamana along the way.
Tell us where you want to go. We'll drive you there.
Most-requested routes:
- Kathmandu → Pokhara (and back), 3–7 day trips
- Kathmandu → Chitwan: jungle safari trips, usually 2–4 days
- Kathmandu → Lumbini: pilgrimage, often combined with Chitwan
- Kathmandu → Muktinath: multi-day temple pilgrimage
- Kathmandu → Manakamana: Bagmati pilgrimage, often a 1-day trip
- Kathmandu → Bandipur / Nagarkot / Dhulikhel: short scenic trips, 1–2 days
- Kathmandu → Dhangadhi: long western Nepal route (we have a branch there)
- Custom multi-stop tours combining 2–4 destinations
How Pricing Works
We keep this transparent because trip pricing varies a lot:
Base formula: Daily rental rate × number of days × (with driver = car cost + driver Rs. 1,500/day)
Customer covers separately:
- Fuel: pay actual usage, estimated at booking
- Driver's food and lodging on multi-day trips, typically Rs. 800–1,200/day depending on the destination
- Tolls: actual cost, tracked and reported
We handle: the car, full documentation, insurance, GPS tracking, the driver's salary, and 24/7 support if anything happens en route.
Permits for restricted areas (Mustang, Manaslu, Upper Dolpo, etc.): these are tourism permits, not vehicle-related, and you arrange them through a travel agency or your trekking permit office. We can recommend partners if you need.
Why Our Drivers Matter on Long Routes
A 6-hour Pokhara drive with a fresh driver who doesn't know the route is exhausting for everyone, especially the driver. Our long-distance drivers have 5+ years of professional experience and have driven each major Nepal route many times.
What this means in practice:
- They know which stretches of the Prithvi Highway have the worst potholes during monsoon
- They know the best lunch spots between Kurintar and Mugling
- They drive defensively in the mountains: slow on hairpins, attentive at blind corners
- They speak conversational English and are happy to share local context if you're curious about what you're seeing
- They don't push you to rush
Recommended Cars for Long Trips
For comfort and reliability over long distances:
- Hyundai Creta: most-booked SUV for Pokhara/Chitwan trips
- Mahindra Scorpio: for rougher routes (Mustang, eastern hills)
- Toyota Avanza: best for families of 5–7 with luggage
- Neta V & BYD Atto 3 for those wanting EV on long routes (charging stations are growing across Nepal but still limited; ask us about EV-feasibility for your route)
- Jeep Compass: premium feel for executive tours
